Personalized Baby Books: Why Bother?

My mother loves to brag about what a great reader I was (and still is). As the story goes, she was reading "Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss and I asked, "Where cat?" and pointed to the words on the page. Mom pointed to the word "cat" and I repeated, "Cat!" In that way, I taught myself to read. I was four years old. I went on to get two college degrees and become a freelance writer.

My motivation for reading then was my love for cats and a desire for something new to do. Kids today don’t often have such a motivation to read. When I was a child, there were no video games, no cell phones and no Internet. Our family couldn’t even afford a color television. That's why personalized baby books (or personalized children's books) can help interest a child in reading.

Imagine opening up a book and finding your name in it. Why is your name in it? Is it just a coincidence or what? You'd keep reading to find out, wouldn’t you? That's part of the reason why personalized baby books help motivate a child to begin reading. The book also encourages the child to keep on reading when the child discovers that he or she is the protagonist of the book.

Reading is key to survival in this modern world. You need the skill to fill out job applications, read directions on medications and road signs. Getting a child curious about reading is the best survival skill you can give them. So, read to your child and read them give them personalized baby books.
